Okay…let’s be honest here. There are a LOT of horrible green smoothies. I mean, I think we all *try* to gulp down the kale and spinach filled {tastes like grass} drinks just to be healthy…but let’s be real for a second – most of them taste awful, right?!

Well…I have the answer to all of your green smoothie problems, and I’m pretty excited about it! When I’m out and about, I love to grab a green smoothie from a local health food store which they have named ‘The Forest’. When I first ordered this drink, I thought for sure it was going to taste like all of the rest…ya know, like an actual forest. BUT….I was pleasantly surprised because it was delicious! Mila from the back seat asked if she could try it, and well..she ended up drinking 75% of the smoothie because she enjoyed it so much!

Once we were done chugging it down, I called the store and begged them for the recipe. Of course, they didn’t want to give away their secrets, so I worked hard to re-create this magic at home, and I finally succeeded.

This green smoothie has flavours of lemon, hints of basil (trust me…it’s good), and feels citrusy and fresh; perfect for Summer! If you’ve been looking for a smoothie for your morning breakfast or afternoon pick me up, try this and tell me what you think!

The Green Smoothie That Actually Tastes Good!

Yield: 1

The Green Smoothie That Actually Tastes Good!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/2 cup kale, frozen or fresh
  • 1 leaf of fresh basil
  • 1/2 cup organic lemonade, not from concentrate
  • 1 serving of vanilla protein powder of choice
  • 1 serving of green superfood powder of choice (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water (depending on how thick you prefer your smoothie).

Instructions

  1. Toss all ingredients in a blender, besides the water and mix until combined. Add water slowly until you reach your desired smoothie thickness. Suggestion - mix for several minutes to ensure all green leaf pieces are fully dissolved; green kale chunks are never tasty!
  2. Another tip: you can add less lemonade if you prefer to lessen the amount of sugar in your smoothie. If you think it's too sweet, try using 1/4 cup lemonade next time!
  3. Enjoy!
